As You Said 04:25
As You Said words & music by Jack Bruce & Pete Brown Let's go down to where it's clean To see the time that might have been The tides have carried off the beach As you said, the sun is out of reach Let's go back to where it's clean To see what year it might have been The roads have carried off the smiles As you said, to judge them at the trials Let's go back to now that's bad To see the time we might have had The rails have carried off the trains As you said, I'll never come again, again, again, again

The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face words & music by Ewan MacColl (David Platz Music) The first time ever I saw your face I thought the sun rose in your eyes And the moon and the stars were the gifts you gave To the dark and the endless skies The first time ever I kissed your lips I felt the earth move in my hand Like the trembling heart of a captive bird That was there at my command And the first time ever I lay with you I felt your heart so close to mine And I knew our joy would fill the earth And last 'til the end of time

about

Medicated Goo have come to chew bubblegum and play psychedelic music -- and they just ran out of bubblegum. John Kimsey, Steve Hashimoto and Brad Newton celebrate the music of Cream, Hendrix & Traffic. Join them as they turn 1967 up to 11!
Our groovilacious video (see track 13) was shot, edited and produced by Dan Haberkorn.

John Kimsey: vocal, guitars; Steve Hashimoto: bass, guitar; Brad Newton: drums, percussion. All tracks except #12 recorded live at Joyride Studio, Chicago, engineered, mixed and mastered by Brian Leach. "Red House" was recorded live on a smartphone at Cary's Lounge, Chicago. Artwork by Steve Hashimoto. Special thanks to Jim Kimsey and Pat Sullivan.

So: We didn’t want to do this music. It had to beg us. Seriously, while we wish that were true, the opposite is the case. The magnetism of these three bands – and they were kind of one big band, if you know your personnel lore – is so irresistible that the three of us were drawn to the task, which was no task at all.

We just took 1967 and turned it up to 11.

We recorded these songs totally live as a three-piece, whether in studio or in saloon, and the thing that sounds like a cello -- like the thing that sounds like an organ and the thing that sounds like a flute – is a guitar (sometimes played by Steve in lieu of bass, sometimes played by John) run through a magic dingus box. John uses a simple looper in a couple of places and, occasionally, a stompbox that generates a harmony above his lead vocal. The only overdubbing was done by the Saucer People, who beamed their transmission into “Third Stone from the Sun” from the valleys of Neptune.

Like Wayne and Garth, we are hardly worthy of taking these songs on, but the project seemed stupid, crazy and fun enough that we found time away from other projects – and all three of us are in other bands that feature music we ourselves have written – to render them unto tape or, in one case, phone. We hope you enjoy listening to them as much as we did playing them and if you do, then please give us your um, feedback. Our amps have given you ours. Cheers!

about

John Kimsey Oak Park, Illinois

Singer, songwriter, guitarist and bandleader John Kimsey is a musical man about town (and country). He helms and writes for The Twisted Roots Quartet; does old-timey duet sets with brother Jim as The Kimsey Brothers; conjures psychedelic pandephonium with power trio Medicated Goo; and whips up cheeky pop euphoria with The Art Thieves. Then he has a nice sandwich. ... more
